Peart died on Tuesday, January 7th after an almost three-and-a-half year long battle with brain cancer. More specifically, glioblastoma, as shared by Rush‘s official social media pages.

Rush‘s official statement regarding the loss of Neil Peart.

Peart is often cited as one of the greatest drummers that rock and roll has ever seen. With his unique and meticulous playing, Neil Peart created a new way of viewing the instrument and in hand has inspired, now numerous, generations of new drummers and musicians.

His loss is felt greatly by the rock community, and he will never be forgotten.

Rest in Peace, Neil.
